In Vermont it is a date: at Stowe, Killington and Okemo the ski-in ski-out claim is usually written as a season, a floor number or a single lift, and the useful question is not whether a hotel touches snow but during which weeks. Eight properties, three resorts, and the five beds that reach snow at all.

The short version

  • Five of the eight beds here reach snow, and exactly one carries no condition. The Lodge at Spruce Peak at Stowe is that one: the greens finish in the plaza it stands on, all season, at $832. Every other ski-on claim in Vermont is qualified by a date, a floor or a single lift.
  • Killington's flagship limits its own claim by the calendar. killington.com sells the Grand's ski bridge as putting you on the slopes 'from December through March (snow conditions permitting)' on a mountain that ran 12 November to 25 May — so roughly a third of the sellable season has no ski-in ski-out at the Grand. Book mid-January to mid-March or book something else.
  • The famous long green never comes home at any of the three. Killington's Great Eastern ends at the Skyeship base on Route 4, not at Snowshed. Stowe's Toll Road runs out in the Toll House pod, not at Spruce Peak. Okemo's Jackson Gore home run has no reliable colour at all — the best independent trail database contradicts itself on it.
  • Cheapest verified ski-on bed in the state: $296 at Mountain Lodge at Okemo, and the condition there is your floor rather than the calendar — ground-floor units ski out, upper units walk down first. It is also the beginner base for Vermont, because nearly every green at Okemo ends at that door.
  • The three resorts are structurally different places. Stowe is one address and a six-to-eight-mile road; Killington has no ski village and only two East Mountain Road numbers touch snow; Okemo has three slopeside bases and one hotel-shaped ski-on address, hanging off a lift with 390 feet of rise.
  • Passes split them: Okemo is unlimited on Epic Local, Stowe is on the same pass but holiday-restricted, and Killington sits on Ikon — 7 days on the full pass, 5 on Base with Christmas, MLK and Presidents' weekends blacked out.

Every property on this page was checked in both directions on its own resort guide first — this page reuses those verdicts rather than re-running them. Access verified against each property's own website, its manager's pages and killington.com, August 2026. Neither stowe.com nor okemo.com could be read: every page of both returned the Vail reservation-system error, so no run colour here comes from an official trail map. Rates are a snapshot for three nights, 20 to 23 January 2027, two adults, harvested on the same dates at all three resorts.

The pedestrian plaza at 7412 Mountain Road is the whole of Stowe's slopeside supply, with Easy Street, Meadows and Inspiration finishing on it and the two-minute Over Easy gondola linking it to Mount Mansfield. The only two addresses that touch snow

Snowshed Express Skyeship Gondola, two independent stages

Snowshed is the learning hill, the ski school and the only base in Killington with a hotel on it; the Skyeship base sits on Route 4 at 1,165 ft, the lowest in the East, which is why its gondola was built in two independent stages. South Ridge Quads A and B Coleman Brook Express (390 ft rise — the only exit)

Clock Tower is the original base and the beginner one — nearly every green on the mountain ends there. Jackson Gore is a purpose-built village on the north side, two-plus miles round by road, with the only front desk on the snow and a single lift out. Three towns, three different bus stories, and the same conclusion: none of them is slopeside at any price. Stowe's shuttle is free and frequent but stops about three weeks before the lifts do; Killington's runs to a 5 p.m. finish; Okemo's two free services do not run midweek at all.

Great Eastern, Toll Road, and the Jackson Gore home run — the three long greens people book Vermont for, and none of them ends at the lodging. Great Eastern finishes at the Skyeship base on Route 4, the Toll Road runs out in the Toll House pod, and the Jackson Gore run has no published colour anyone can agree on.

The Over Easy gondola at Stowe — a two-minute base-to-base transfer between Spruce Peak and Mount Mansfield. It is what lets one slopeside village serve two mountains, and it means a Lodge guest's ride home from Mansfield ends on a gondola rather than a trail.

The Coleman Brook Express at Okemo — 390 feet of rise and, in the leading independent source's phrase, 'the only way out of Jackson Gore'. Everything at that base funnels onto it to reach the Quantum Six and the rest of the mountain.

Boston and the drive — all three resorts are road trips rather than fly-ins for most visitors, which is why free parking at Killington and Okemo does more damage to the case for slopeside here than a shuttle timetable ever does.

None of these appear on a hotel listing, and each one changes what slopeside is worth at these three mountains.

The access season

Killington's ski bridge is sold for December through March against a mountain that ran 12 November to 25 May. Fall Line's ski-home trail opens 'mid-winter (conditions permitting)'. The Sunrise Village Triple on the Bear Mountain side closes around 7 April. Stowe's free shuttle ran 28 November to 5 April against lifts running 21 November to 25 April. Mid-January to mid-March is the only window in which every claim in this comparison is simultaneously true.

Okemo snowmaking

98% is capacity, not delivery

The figure repeats across Vail Resorts' own Okemo fact sheets — 98% coverage across 667 acres and 121 to 127 trails, against roughly 200 inches of natural snow. But an independent review reports that after the acquisition the resort cut back snowmaking operations and permanently lost some water rights, and rates the plant as decent rather than what it was. Coverage installed and coverage delivered are two different claims, and the marketing only ever quotes the first. Stowe publishes 83% across 116 trails and 485 acres.

Killington: 'no ticket, no fee, no catch' at all five base lots, with paid premium as an optional upgrade — K-1 Preferred $47 Saturday and $40 Sunday and midweek holidays, Snowshed Valet $52 and $45. Okemo: free at every lot, four at Clock Tower and one large one at Jackson Gore, no shuttle needed. Stowe is the exception at $30 a day at Mansfield and Midway on Fridays, weekends and holidays — free Monday to Thursday, free after 2 p.m., and free any time for a car carrying four or more.

The cheapest bed in the whole comparison was Stowe Village Inn at $162, seven miles from a lift.

In Vermont, ski-in ski-out is a claim about the calendar

Ask what ski-in ski-out means in Colorado and the honest answer is a distance: how many yards, across what, in boots. Ask it in Vermont and the answer is a date. At all three of the resorts on this page the operators themselves qualify the claim by season — not in the small print, but in the sentence that sells the room — because a 1,100-to-1,600-foot base in New England cannot promise skiable snow at the door in November or in April.

The clearest example is the biggest one. Killington is the largest ski area in the East and skis from early November to late May, and its own website sells the Grand's pedestrian ski bridge as putting you on the slopes 'from December through March (snow conditions permitting)'. Read those two facts together and the flagship ski-in ski-out hotel of the biggest mountain in the East has no ski-in ski-out for roughly a third of the season you can buy a lift ticket for. Nothing about that is hidden; it is simply never put next to the season dates.

The same hedge runs down the price scale. At Stowe the Tollhouse Condos are sold as ski-in ski-out while the manager's own paragraph says 'slip down to the Toll Road lift (WEATHER DEPENDENT)' and offers the shuttle in the next breath. At Killington, killington.com gives Fall Line a 'ski home trail open mid-winter (conditions permitting)' without naming the trail, and describes Highridge's access as 'best suited for skiers who can skate on skis; not recommended for snowboarders'. Trail Creek's access works 'only when that facility is operational and conditions permit'. None of these is a lie. All of them are seasons dressed as addresses.

So the useful question in Vermont is not which hotel is slopeside. It is which weeks it is slopeside, and whether those are your weeks. Mid-January to mid-March, every claim in this comparison holds. In late November, in April and in May — when Killington and Stowe are both still spinning lifts — you are paying a slopeside rate for a bus, and the shoulder seasons are precisely when the rates look attractive.

Counts and verdicts are inherited from each resort guide, where every property was checked in both directions. Cheapest ski-on bed is the lowest published rate for a property that passed the strict test, 20 to 23 January 2027, two adults. Killington's two snow-access addresses are a hotel with no published rate and a townhome rental with none either.

The long green run never comes home

Each of these three mountains has a signature beginner-friendly descent that people quote at each other before they book. At none of them does that run finish where the lodging is, and the pattern is consistent enough to be worth planning around.

Killington's Great Eastern runs roughly 3.5 miles and over 2,500 vertical feet down the far side of Skye Peak and finishes at the Skyeship base on US Route 4 at 1,165 ft — the resort's lowest-elevation trail, a highway gondola station with a parking lot rather than a village at the bottom. It does not come back to Snowshed, where the ski school and the only base hotel are, and the only lodging it passes in its entire length is Spruce Glen. Beginners at Killington do ski home: Snowshed Slope finishes at the Snowshed Lodge and Great Northern comes down to Ramshead. Neither of those is the run anyone came for.

Stowe's Toll Road is reported at 3.7 to 4.5 miles of green through deep woods, and it runs out in the Toll House pod at the southern edge of the resort — not at Spruce Peak, not at the Mansfield base. Ski it on day one and the day ends at a satellite base with a 1983 double chair, several miles from the hotel. A beginner staying at the Lodge should be on Easy Street, Meadows and Inspiration instead; all three finish in the village plaza.

Okemo's Jackson Gore home run fails in a stranger way: nobody can tell you what colour it is. The most detailed independent Okemo trail database marks Expresso, Fast Track, Rolling Thunder, Southern Crossing and Spur Line green in its own index, then calls all five intermediate on its own Jackson Gore page, then names Inn Bound as the beginner run instead — and marks Inn Bound blue. Okemo.com errored on every attempt, including both trail-map PDFs, so there is no official source to break the tie. We publish the contradiction and no rating, which is why the beginner recommendation for the whole state points at Clock Tower rather than at the nicer hotel.

The practical version of all three: check what finishes at your building, not what the mountain is famous for. That is the one question the listings never answer, and at these resorts it is answerable from the resort's own trail names in about five minutes.

Three resorts, three completely different shapes

Stowe is one address. Spruce Peak at 7412 Mountain Road is the resort's only pedestrian base village, and everything else that calls itself a Stowe hotel is strung along six to eight miles of Route 108 below it — Green Mountain Inn's own listing says eight miles to the skiing, Field Guide's says seven, Topnotch's says four. The free Mountain Road Shuttle is genuinely good, running every 20 to 30 minutes, and its calendar is the trap: in 2025/26 it ran 28 November to 5 April against lifts running 21 November to 25 April, and a new operator takes the route over for 2026/27.

Killington has no ski village whatsoever. What it has is the Access Road, a four-mile strip of inns, condos and bars climbing from US-4 to the Snowshed and Ramshead bases, and the house number tells you where you are — numbering starts at Route 4, so 1784 is about a mile and a half below the base and 2617 is mid-strip. Nothing on that road has a ski-home trail. The only two addresses in the harvest with snow access are on East Mountain Road: the Grand at the Snowshed base and Spruce Glen above the Skyeship. The resort's real slopeside stock is the Bear Mountain condo communities, which do not book through a front desk and never appear in hotel data.

Okemo has three slopeside bases, not the two most guides list: Clock Tower at the top of the access road, mid-mountain Solitude Village, and the purpose-built Jackson Gore village on the north side. Only one of the three is hotel-shaped — the Jackson Gore Inn, where you cross a heated walkway and skate to the Coleman Brook Express. That lift is 390 feet of rise and the sole exit from the base, described by the leading independent Okemo source as 'the only way out of Jackson Gore', with weekend waits over half an hour. Ludlow, at the foot of the road, is a shuttle town whatever a listing title says.

The money follows the shape. Killington parks free at all five bases and Okemo free at every lot, so at both the case for paying up to sleep closer is weaker than the marketing implies — the premium buys a lie-in, not a saved parking fee. Stowe charges $30 at Mansfield and Midway on Fridays, weekends and holidays, and gives it back Monday to Thursday, after 2 p.m., or to any car carrying four or more people. Okemo's catch is the timetable rather than the price: both free shuttles run weekends and holidays only, so a midweek Ludlow stay is a car.

Which Vermont resort has real ski-in ski-out lodging?
All three on this page have some, and they have very different amounts of it. Okemo has the most usable supply — three slopeside bases, with Jackson Gore Inn at $370 the only hotel-shaped ski-on address and Mountain Lodge at $296 the cheapest verified one in the state. Stowe has exactly one address, The Lodge at Spruce Peak, and it is the only claim in Vermont with no season or floor condition attached. Killington has two, both on East Mountain Road, and both are qualified by date.
Is Stowe ski-in ski-out?
One address at Stowe is, and the operator says so outright: The Lodge at Spruce Peak calls itself 'Stowe's only slopeside ski-in ski-out destination at the base of Stowe Mountain Resort'. Everything else marketed as a Stowe hotel sits along six to eight miles of Mountain Road — Green Mountain Inn's own listing says eight miles to the skiing, Stowe Village Inn is about seven — with a free shuttle in between. The Spruce Peak residences and cabins around the same plaza also reach snow, but they let through rental managers and never appear in hotel data, so they carry no rate. Is the Killington Grand really ski-in ski-out?
Between December and March, yes — outside those months, no, and the limit is killington.com's own. The resort sells the Grand's pedestrian ski bridge as putting you on the slopes 'from December through March (snow conditions permitting)', while the mountain itself ran 12 November to 25 May in 2025/26. Guest reports put the crossing at about 100 yards from the back exit to the Snowshed quad, and Snowshed is the learning hill, so inside the window the Grand is the best family base in Vermont. Book it for November or May and you have paid a slopeside rate for a shuttle.

Stowe if the trip is outside mid-winter or if the slopeside claim has to hold every day; Killington if the dates are mid-January to mid-March and the budget matters. The Lodge at Spruce Peak is the only Vermont ski-on bed with no date or floor condition, at $832 a night. Killington is the bigger mountain by a distance, parks free at all five bases and skis into late May — but its ski bridge is a December-to-March product and it has no base village at all, so a Killington Road address means a shuttle. Passes split them too: Stowe is Epic, Killington is Ikon.
Which pass do you need for Vermont ski-in ski-out?
